Families testify at public hearing on officer-involved deaths

MADISON -- Local families are in Madison to voice support for a bill that would change the way police handle officer-involved deaths.

Among those testifying at the public hearing are the parents of Michael Bell. Bell was the Kenosha man shot to death nine years ago during a scuffle with police. Officers in that case and others were cleared of any wrongdoing.

Under the bill, Wisconsin would become the first state to have an independent review board investigate officer-involved deaths. Wisconsin Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen said the law would be an unnecessary expansion of government. Van Hollen argues district attorney's already provide an impartial review.
