County Supervisor wants a task force to create Dontre Hamilton memorial
Milwaukee County Supervisor Khalif Rainey wants to create a memorial to honor Dontre Hamilton. He proposed a resolution that would create a task force to find the best way to honor Hamilton. Hamilton was shot and killed by a Milwaukee Police Officer in April, 2014. Rainey previously recommended changing Red Arrow Park's name to honor Hamilton - but that drew criticism from veterans.
\"The suggestion I made previously did not include all stakeholders,\" Rainey said. \"This here is an opportunity to bring everyone to the table, the veterans, the justice coalition, mental health experts and all come to a consensus event with this idea, come together collectively to decide how we should move forward with this matter.\"
The new resolution passed committee Tuesday and will go to the full county board. Rainey thinks it will pass. The task force would meet to decide the best way to honor Hamilton. Rainey says it could help the healing process for the whole community but also bring awareness to mental health issues.
