Car stolen from Milwaukee waitress during her shift

NOW: Car stolen from Milwaukee waitress during her shift

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) - A Milwaukee waitress had her car stolen during her shift.

Nicole Reit says the thieves took her car keys right out of her coat pocket while she was working.

Reit was working her shift at El Greco Monday, Dec. 30 when it happened. She says she didn’t notice anything suspicious until her keys and car were gone.

“It just didn’t make any sense,” said Reit, just a day after the car was taken.

“I did not pay attention to these three boys that came in, I guess they had to go to the bathroom,” said Reit.

Surveillance captured three teens entering the restaurant and going back towards the restrooms.

“I thought they were going to go sit down,” said Reit, “I went over there, I didn’t see anybody.”

She says the trio came and left quietly. It was a half hour later that she looked up and saw her car was gone.

“And then I went to my coat pocket and sure enough they took all my keys, everything,” she said.

Reit says her keys were in a zipped-up coat pocket hanging on a rack in the restaurant.  Video from the parking lot shows the three near her car when it was taken.

It was a 2005 Ford Taurus with license number 470-YJT.

Right now, Reit has little hope of getting it back. “Who knows what they’re going to do to it, either they’re probably going to drop it off somewhere or drive stupid and get in an accident or something,” she said.

The theft couldn’t come at a worse time. Reit is under a lot of stress because she is in the process of moving, and she lost her mom earlier this month. Right now she’s just trying to hold it together. “Trying not to break down because like I said, this whole month has been horrible,” said Reit.

The surveillance video has been turned over to the Milwaukee Police Department.  CBS 58 reached out to MPD but we have not heard back.
