Candidate for Congress renews push for stricter gun control

MILWAUKEE-- August 5th will mark the 2-year anniversary of the mass shooting at the Sikh Temple of Wisconsin and now Amardeep Kaleka, whose father died in the shooting, is renewing his push for stricter gun control as he ramps up his campaign for congress.



CBS 58's Sandra Torres spoke with Kaleka at Mitchell International Airport before he left for California, where he will make an announcement on his plan of action for national gun legislation.



\"I finally got all the research I needed to make the plan... now I'm ready to announce,\" said Kaleka.



Kaleka says it's an aggressive plan that attacks bad sales of guns.



\"Legislation that hinders drug trafficking and legislation that creates a universal background check... many people believe that already exists, but it doesn't. There's private gun sales that could happen all day long without a background check,\" Kaleka added.



The plan includes three legislative changes. Kaleka says two have been offered before and one is brand new.



Nik Clark, the Chairman and President of the organization \"Wisconsin Carry\" doesn't agree with Kaleka's plan and insists having a universal background check isn't the solution.



\"We think it's the wrong conversation to have...  universal background checks won't be effective and it will place a burden on law abiding citizens and won't have any effect on anyone with criminal intent,\" said Clark.
