MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- It's been almost a year since Tom Barrett gave up his position as mayor of Milwaukee and became the U.S. ambassador to Luxembourg.
On Monday, we heard from the former mayor, who gave us a little update on his new job.
"Well, I can tell you that no day is the same, and that's one of the things I love about the job," Barrett said.
Tom Barrett was interviewed on Zoom for a UW-Madison celebration of International Education Week.
Along with the variety of his work in the U.S. Embassy, he said the job was in some ways, humbling.
He found it remarkable that so many people in Luxembourg speak several languages, and he spoke of their curiosity.
"Their understanding and desire to learn more about other parts of their globe. It's not -- it's not all about the United States, and that's, I think, sometimes for us as Americans, that might be a little surprising, that they're interested in other cultures and other parts of the world, as well," said Barrett.
One issue that Barrett says is common to Luxembourg, Milwaukee and other parts of the world is how to provide enough jobs for people, especially in rural areas.
