89 Year-Old Veteran is Still Serving in Elm Grove

Some veterans never stop serving.

On this Veterans Day, CBS 58 News caught up with Navy Veteran George Collura,89, who is volunteering as a bell ringer for the Salvation Army.

Collura tells us he enlisted in 1945 but World War II was over by the time he finished training.

He spent his years decommissioning ships and now stays active as a volunteer.

He also volunteered that he watches his diet.

"If you get  two pork chops, just eat one," said Collura.  "Don't eat the other one.  That's true.   I don't eat after 8 O'clock.  I get up every morning at 7 O'clock and do a walk for about 40 minutes.  And I do a couple of push ups and sit ups in the house. That's how you stay young. Otherwise, you're gonna vegetate."

Collura is encouraging others to ring the bell for the Salvation Army.

And we thank him for his service then and now.
