WAUWATOSA, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Multiple Wauwatosa police officers are recovering after being shot by a suspect at the Radisson Hotel on Mayfair Road Saturday, Nov. 6.

Officials first reported two officers were shot, and now we've learned a third was injured. All are expected to be OK.

"Because of the courage and dedication of our police officers, what could've been a very tragic situation was tamped down and our community was protected," said Wauwatosa Mayor Dennis McBride.

Wauwatosa police say the three officers shot were originally responding to a shots fired call in the second floor hallway of the Radisson Hotel late Saturday night.

Upon arrival, the officers were checking rooms in the immediate area of the gunfire to see if anyone had been hurt. While checking one room, that's when the officers were struck from inside.

Officers returned fire, but the suspect was not struck.

The suspect, identified as 33-year-old Kenneth Burney of Milwaukee, was taken into custody.

Two firearms were recovered from his room.

Police say Burney is the only suspect in this case. However, Wauwatosa police are investigating the original shots fired call in the hallway separately, and believe it is unrelated.

"The Wauwatosa Police Department will be leading the investigation into the first report of shots fired at the Radisson Hotel. We ask anyone with information about that shooting to contact the Wauwatosa Police Department," said Wauwatosa Police Department Lt. Shane Wrucke.

Wauwatosa police said charges against Burnie will be referred.

The Milwaukee Police Department is the lead agency in the case.
