MPS students present designs for Wisconsin's first ever outdoor chess park ♟️

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Over at Kilbourn Reservoir Park, a handful of MPS high schoolers unveiled their designs and prototypes for Wisconsin's first ever outdoor chess park.
It comes after the students got to take part in a 2-week "Design and Build Camp" at the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee.
The hands-on program is meant to inspire a love for architecture, engineering and civic design.
For Milwaukee's Department of Public Works, the project is a win-win.
"It was just an important element of our design process to involve the youth in the design of the chess park," said Ahmed Ayyash, facilities maintenance coordinator at the Department of Public Works. "Knowing that in the future when the park goes up and gets constructed a lot of youth will hopefully be playing chess in the park."
They're still looking to do some fundraising and refine their designs in order to bring it all to life, but they're hoping to break ground sometime next year.
