OCONOMOWOC, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Three Oconomowoc gyms within one mile from each other have been targeted in a string of car break-ins since late April.
Oconomowoc police said Burn Boot Camp, Planet Fitness and Anytime Fitness members were victims of car break-ins on Tuesday, June 6. Numerous purses, wallets, money, and laptops were stolen -- according to police. This is the second time those members have been targeted; the first time was on April 21.
"I just don't want people to feel unsafe, you know?" said Burn Boot Camp Owner Erika Altreuther.
On Tuesday, two of her members became victims of car break-ins. A wallet and backpack were stolen. In April, she said six vehicles were broken into outside of her business. Altreuther believes the thieves are after ID's and credit cards.
"I know of a couple cases where they have taken $3,000, they've cleared all their accounts and it's just gone," said Altreuther.
Oconomowoc police shared the following advice for gym members:
"To help prevent car break-ins, we suggest hiding or removing your valuables any time the vehicle is unoccupied."
Officials believe the suspects are a gang from out of state. The investigation is ongoing.
