Youth Summit Steering Kids Away From Drugs

Survivors of a potentially deadly addiction are delivering some sobering and hopefully live-saving advice to young people about drugs.

According to the Milwaukee County medical examiner, someone in Milwaukee County dies of an opiate overdose every 25 hours.

Wednesday’s event is an effort to steer kids away from drugs before they become another statistic. The Milwaukee County substance abuse prevention coalition hosted its annual drug free youth summit.

It happened at Neu Life Community Development Center on North Avenue.

Presenters from organizations across Milwaukee County spoke to about 100 kids about the dangers of drugs.

They are hoping that hearing first hand from survivors of drug addiction will teach them to not make the same mistakes.

These kids will be challenged to come up with new ways to spread anti-drug messages to their peers.
