MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- CBS 58 is celebrating longtime anchor Mike Strehlow with a sendoff as unique as his career: his very own frozen custard flavor.

“Mike Strehlow, you've had such a legendary career here at CBS 58. I wanted to bestow upon you a very special gift that is close to my heart and the five families of frozen custard here in Milwaukee. So, joining me now is Willy Linscott, one of the five families at Gilles' Frozen Custard,” said our own Alex Corradetti as Strehlow joined the CBS 58 Morning News on Thursday, Aug. 21.

“You've been such an integral part of the community and in Milwaukee, and as a representative of Gilles' Frozen Custard, we wanted to give back a little bit. So, we made you our own special flavor, which I have right behind me here,” Linscott replied.

The surprise flavor: Strehlow's Sign-Off Swirl, which is made of Gilles’ world-famous chocolate custard blended with Reese's peanut butter cups and extra swirls of peanut butter sauce.

Alex explained the choice to focus so heavily on peanut butter as a key component to the custard's flavor. She explained, "Mike Strehlow eats a peanut butter sandwich every day. Mike Strehlow is known for that in our newsroom."

Linscott added, “Thank you for allowing me to be a part of this. And Mike, I don't know if you have enough to share, but this is one gallon here so enjoy!”

As the gift was revealed, Alex summarized why the collaboration made so much sense.

"A community institution at Gilles Frozen Custard and a community institution to CBS 58. You, Mike Strehlow, you finally got the final scoop, and your own sign off, so we'll see you there in the studio!"

Strehlow's final day anchoring the CBS 58 News at Noon and 4 p.m. is on Thursday, though he will continue his duties as host of CBS 58 Sunday Morning.
