Wrong way driver arrested on I-41 going 5 mph
Wednesday night just before 10:00 PM, Sheriff's deputies responded to calls reporting a wrong way driver traveling south in the northbound lanes on US 41 at Silver Spring.
A deputy stopped the driver in the median distress lane just north of West Hampton Avenue by activating her emergency lights while driving directly at the driver who was then driving at approximately five miles per hour.
58-year-old Milwaukee man Albert Payne performed poorly on field sobriety tests, and tested .09 on a breathalyzer test.
Payne faces charges of 2nd Degree Recklessly Endangering Safety, a felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison. Two misdemeanor charges are also being sought: Possession of Cocaine and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. He was cited for DUI-1st offense and Driving Wrong Way on Divided Highway.
