WAUWATOSA, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A woman is facing a number of charges after police say she stole a squad car in Wauwatosa Thursday.
Authorities say they were called to 68th and Wisconsin just before 5:00 Thursday night for a fight involving a man and a woman.
They say the woman was throwing rocks and threatening someone with a weapon described as a knife or a screwdriver. When officers got on scene, Martin took off. Officers chased after her and when they caught up to her, she initially gave them a fake name but police identified her as 20-year-old Antoinette Martin.
Police say they handcuffed Martin with her hands behind her back, searched her, and seat-belted her in the squad, per protocol. They say somehow she was able to climb through a small opening in the plexiglass partition and get into the driver's seat of the squad and drive away.
She later got out of the car and ran but was found by a K9 unit a short time later hiding under a deck of a nearby home.
Authorities say the man involved had an active warrant for his arrest.
According to Wauwatosa Police, Martin has been charged with operating a motor vehicle without owner's consent, escape, and disorderly conduct while armed.
Police say they will be conducting an internal investigation to find out exactly how Martin was able to escape.
