Roughly 50 acres of land burned in Kenosha County brush fire, according to fire chief
KENOSHA COUNTY, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Crews responded to a large brush fire in Bristol Monday afternoon, March 9, south of 116th St. between 214th Ave. and 208th Ave in Kenosha County.
Kenosha County officials say the fire has been put out, and roads have reopened.
Several residents in the area were evacuated as a precaution; however, officials tell us no homes caught on fire and no injuries were reported.
"I started getting a little nervous," said Glen Rzysko, who lives less than a mile from where the fire broke out. "There were some embers flying over there and so I went ahead and got the garden hose and hooked it up just in case, but the embers weren't hot.”
According to John Niederer, the Bristol fire chief, around 50 acres of land burned in total.
"Everything is dry, so it’s going to push that fire, and the wind didn’t help us at all today," said Chief Niederer.
Chief Neiderer says around the same time, a brush fire broke out in Racine County, causing resources to be stretched thin.
"We share, because we’re so close," said Chief Neiderer. "A lot of our resources are similar resources to what are on their cards, so it causes a little bit of challenge."
Nearly 25 departments from across Southeastern Wisconsin and Southern Illinois responded to the fire.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
