Woman Shot while Fleeing Carjacking in Bay View

MILWAUKEE - A 47-year-old woman from Milwaukee was shot in an attempted carjacking in Bay View last night. The victim was exiting her vehicle in the 2700 block of S. Quincy when she was approached by an unknown male who demanded her vehicle at gunpoint.

The woman attempted to run away and was shot by the unknown male. He then entered a waiting vehicle and fled without taking the victims auto.

The victim was transported to a local hospital where she was treated and released for her injury.

The Milwaukee Police Department continues to investigate the incident and the search for suspects is ongoing.

Neighbors say the crime is out of the ordinary.

"a lot of people walking around, doing their weekend stuff, and all of a sudden that's when the ambulances, fire trucks, everything showing up," said Jennifer Chambers.

Chambers lives down the street from the attempted carjacking.

"I felt really safe here so it's kind of, a little unnerving," said Chambers.

Area businesses along Kinnickinnic Avenue were surprised to hear the shooting happened just blocks from them.

"We're shocked because it's not common for our neighborhood to be like that. We're a very family oriented neighborhood. There's not a lot of violence so it is very strange," said Leela Sims with Sven's Cafe.
