Woman and 8-Year-Old Daughter Escape Standoff in Fond du Lac

On Wednesday, January 18 at 11:44 PM, officers with the Fond du Lac Police Department received information that a woman and her 8-year-old daughter were being held at knife point in their residence on Sibley Street by the woman’s estranged boyfriend.

Officers responded to the house and continued to receive information regarding the situation which was being relayed to them through a third party. Within ten minutes of having received the complaint, the woman was able to exit the house with her child after the suspect had fallen asleep.

Neither mom or daughter were injured and they were taken to safety by officers on-scene. Shortly after they escaped, the male suspect woke up and briefly stepped outside, but immediately retreated into the residence after receiving commands from officers outside.

This started a four and a half hour standoff which prompted a callout of the SWAT team. The SWAT team took perimeter positions and deployed a robot into the residence to locate and initiate dialog with the suspect.

The team later entered the residence and began negotiating with the subject keeping a K9 unit available within the residence. Eventually, the subject did comply with officer commands and was taken into custody without injury to the suspect or officers on-scene.

The suspect, a 49-year-old man, was held in the Fond du Lac County Jail on charges of Domestic Abuse related 2nd Degree Recklessly Endangering Safety by use of a Dangerous Weapon, False Imprisonment, and Intimidation of a Victim.
