'I believe in the power of this city': Mayor Johnson kicks off Adopt-A-Neighborhood revitalization effort
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The death of Milwaukee Police Officer Kendall Corder was weighing on Mayor Cavalier Johnson as he appeared at a kickoff event for an Adopt-A-Neighborhood event Monday, June 30.
"The loss that we have suffered this weekend is a stark reminder of what's really at stake," Mayor Johnson said. "But I believe in the power of this city."
This was in the Arlington Heights neighborhood at 9th and Atkinson.
Adopt-A-Neighborhood is a 12-week initiative that involves clearing away some old houses, beautifying the neighborhood, and improving public safety.
The partnership involves the city, local organizations and the people who live here.
"And to everyone across Milwaukee, I want you to know that this city is best when all of us stand together," Mayor Johnson said. "When we're unified. When we come together as neighbors, as friends, as family, as a community. Because we care about every neighborhood, not just simply the one we call home ourselves."
A live house demolition happened after the press conference to demonstrate the city's resolve to revitalize hometown neighborhoods.
