Wisconsin man killed by lightning strike while working on tree house

TOWN OF MORGAN -- One man is dead after a tree house he was working on with a friend was struck by lightning. The victim's friend is being treated at a local hospital for his injuries.

27-year-old Brad Cox and his friend were working on a tree house in the Town of Morgan on August 3.

Neighbor Daryl Mommaerts told WFRV skies were somewhat cloudy, but was nothing to be alarmed about. \"It really didn't seem threatening, but then a big cloud came overhead and it just stayed there,\" said Mommaerts. Mommaerts says that changed quickly around 5:30 p.m. when he heard a loud crack of thunder.

Oconto County Sheriff's deputies found the 31-year-old victim who survived the incident on the ground. Cox was pronounced dead at the scene. Officials have yet to release the name of the 31-year-old victim being treated at a local hospital.
