Wisconsin Man Accused of Stealing Mail Throughout Oneida County

RHINELANDER, Wis. (WSAW) -- The Oneida County Sheriff's Department Lieutenant says a 21-year-old Rhinelander man in custody for stealing a car, is also under investigation for stealing mail.

According to a news release, the sheriff's department received a complaint on Jan. 12 that a car was stolen from the Town of Pelican. The vehicle was located two days later in Rhinelander.

Investigators said the suspect Alexander Durand arrested.

According to a news release, during the investigation into the stolen vehicle, it was found that Durand has been stealing U.S. Mail from all over Oneida County as well as other jurisdictions.

Over the next few weeks, the sheriff's office will be in contact with those whose mail has been located. The Oneida County Sheriff’s Office is contacting other jurisdictions that may be involved. The investigation is ongoing.

Durand remains in custody on $15,000 cash bond.
