CBS 58's Hometown Athlete: Daulton Varsho, from UWM to the World Series

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- There's nothing in baseball like the World Series.

"Every day is like the Super Bowl," Daulton Varsho says.

For Varsho, the road to baseball's biggest stage came through Milwaukee.

He was the first Panther ever to make the majors and the only one to play in a World Series.

"I learned so much about myself," Varsho says. "But also, we (Milwaukee Panthers) were always the underdog with everything. Knowing that from Milwaukee, that you still have to go out there and prove everything you got, I think that stuck with me."

Varsho came painfully close to history, hitting what would have been the walk-off RBI to win the World Series. But baseball is a game of inches, and the Blue Jays lost Game 7 in extras.

The Marshfield native learned a lot from the experience, so as badly as he wants another shot at it, he's focused on what he can control.

"Don't put any more pressure on yourself than you need to," Varsho says. "It's the same game. Go out there, go have fun and see where it takes you. I'm a perfectionist, I still am. Even when things go well, I'm still hard on myself when things go right."

That mentality has Varsho on pace for his best batting average in his five full seasons in the majors. It also helped him have four hits in three games against the Brewers this month, including his first MLB home run in his home state.
