Wisconsin DNR pushes for use of Mentored Hunting Law
MADISON, Wis. (CBS 58) -- The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources is promoting the use of the state's Mentored Hunting Law to experienced hunters. This initiative, in place since 2009, allows novices to experience hunting without completing a Hunter Safety course first.
The Mentored Hunting Law aims to provide a safe environment for beginners under the guidance of seasoned hunters, ensuring a hands-on learning experience.
Wisconsin DNR issued a press release this week noting the benefits of the program during the fall season, a peak time for the Hunter Education program. It facilitates new hunters' participation, offering them an opportunity to gain hunting experience in a secure environment.
For those interested in participating, individuals can log in to Go Wild to purchase a mentored hunting license and necessary stamps. If the system doesn't find a valid Hunter Safety Certificate on record, it will suggest the Mentored-Only license option. Those with a Mentored-Only license should remain within arm's reach of a licensed hunter over 18 years old and comply with all hunting laws.
Additionally, mentors can possess any valid, non-expired Wisconsin hunting approval, with the provision that they can only mentor one un-certified hunter at a time. Click here to learn more about the state's other mentorship opportunities.
