MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The Milwaukee Health Department is partnering with Ascension Saint Joseph's to help low-income women and their children.
A new Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) Office is opening at the hospital.
It joins the hospital's Women Outpatient Center.
The office will help give more women and children access to the nutrition they need.
A registered nurse pitched the idea.
"WIC really helps the women quite a bit. It offers them many services so in addition to our services, it really can help the outcome of their babies. We want to get the baby to their first birthday," said Cindy Reed, RN.
WIC offers nutritious foods and referrals to other health services for low-income nutritionally at-risk women.
