Man charged in hit-and-run that killed Watertown father of 3
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- As carjackings and reckless driving continue to plague the Milwaukee area, officials are working to help people prevent their cars from being stolen.
On Wednesday, Feb. 2, Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley and District 6 supervisor Shawn Rolland hosted an automobile wheel lock giveaway at Cooper Park.
They were free to residents on a first-come, first-serve basis. It's a simple way to prevent a vehicle becoming a soft target for thieves.
"There are things we can do to prevent car thefts, and it's especially important in the winter. We know that in the winter months, typically a 25% increase in car thefts because people are leaving their cars running, warming them up because it's cold outside," said Rolland.
Rolland acknowledged that it's a large problem that also needs support from the government, businesses and other organizations.
