MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- We Energies named Mia, an 8-year-old husky mix, as its 12th "Ambassadog."
Over 30,000 votes were cast among 10 choices, Mia being the "ulti-mutt" winner.
The pup is part of spreading a safety message from the company: "Doggone it? Call 811 at least three days before you dig."
Mia will be featured on billboards in honor of National Safe Digging Day, Aug. 11, and she will be the start of a social media campaign over the next year, reminding people to be safe when digging.
"I'm really excited that she won. And she makes me very happy and she keeps me safe, so I guess, you know, spreading the digging about safe digging will help do that for other people as well," said Kristin Lavenhagen, Mia's owner.
Digging can be dangerous if you don't call three days in advance. Knowing the location of underground utilities in important. It helps keep you and your family safe.
