We Energies asks customers to clear meters of snow and ice

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- We Energies is asking the public to clear electric and gas meters as well as furnace vents of snow and ice.

According to the energy company, heavy snow or icicles can cause damage to the meter and snow blocking the intake or exhaust vents can put your family in danger.

Pressure caused by snow or ice can damage pipes and cause a natural gas meter to leak. The meters can be damaged if ice and snow freeze to them. 

We Energies says to clear the snow using your hand or a broom. Do not use a shovel or kick the meter to remove snow and ice.
