WAUWATOSA, Wis. (CBS 58) -- The Wauwatosa Police Department took to social media on Wednesday, April 3 to announce the death of retired K-9 Addy, a key figure in the department's K9 program.

Addy passed at the age of 16.

He was the department's first K9, serving from May 2010 until his retirement in January 2019.

Alongside Detective Tim Kastner, WPD says that Addy was instrumental in the development of the department's K-9 unit, contributing to multiple arrests and engagements with the community, including school visits and Tosa Night Out.

Trained in both narcotic detection and patrol work, Addy was distinguished by a Meritorious Apprehension award and the K-9 Handler of the Year title in 2014.

The department also extended condolences to Detective Kastner and his family during this time.
