Video: Fond du Lac man arrested after pursuit ending in cornfield

Fond du Lac County Sheriff's Office

FOND DU LAC COUNTY, Wis. (CBS 58) -- The Fond du Lac County Sheriff's Office released footage Friday, from a pursuit and foot chase ending in a cornfield Monday, Aug. 17.

Just before 2:30 p.m., a deputy attempted to stop a driver who the sheriff's office says recently fled from the police department.

Officials say the suspect, a 40-year-old Fond du Lac man, failed to stop and accelerated at a "high rate of speed" southbound on Highway 175 near Highway 151.  A second deputy deployed a tire deflation device, and the suspect eventually bailed on foot from the vehicle, running southbound and leaving the vehicle on the highway.

The suspect ran toward a subdivision on Valley Creek Road, according to the sheriff's office, and into a cornfield.

A perimeter was established, and around 6:30 p.m., the suspect was spotted attempting to exit the cornfield off of Reinhardt Road. He immediately fled back into the field, according to officials, and a drone operator was able to determine his location. A K-9 was deployed and after a roughly 300-yard track through the field, the suspect was pushed out toward an arrest team near Paradise Lane.

He was taken into custody at 7:45 p.m. after a pursuit covering about 12.6 miles and lasting about five-and-a-half hours.

Two Fond du Lac County patrol vehicles were damaged during the pursuit, and a sheriff's deputy and police officer sustained minor injuries.

The suspect was booked on charges of fleeing and eluding, second degree reckless endangering safety, and felony bail jumping.

The sheriff's office says the suspect has two open felony cases and is currently on probation for possession of cocaine and possession of a firearm by a felon.
