MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The United States Census Bureau is looking for thousands of workers. The bureau kicked off its recruitment process Tuesday morning, Feb. 11.
The bureau is in need of nearly 19,000 workers in Wisconsin and nearly 2,000 in Milwaukee.
They are hiring workers for offices as well as workers who go door to door with questionnaires.
The jobs pay between $17 and $24 per hour and typically last eight weeks.
Officials say there are other reasons to work for the Census Bureau besides the extra income.
“With this, it’s an additional job to augment your income and we’ll also be appealing to folks with civic interest. Giving back to the community. We know it’s a tough job market out there, but that’s one of our main pitches. We want you to serve your country. We want you to serve your community and this would be a good opportunity to do so,” said Assistant Regional Census Manager Kazeem Hamed.
