Update: Two Dead, Two Injured in Three Car Accident in Waukesha County

At approximately 7:11 PM on Sunday, November 8 Deputies from the Waukesha County Sheriff’s Department responded along with emergency officials from Delafield, Chenequa, Oconomowoc Lake, Oconomowoc, Hartland, Stone Bank and Lake Country to a report of a large motor vehicle accident on Highway 16 near Highway C in the Village of Nashotah.

Upon arrival, Deputies discovered that there were a total of four victims. A 24-year-old man from Pewaukee, Kent Girmscheid, and a 68-year-old woman from Watertown, Joann Elertson, were pronounced dead on scene. 

A 69-year-old man from Watertown and 37-year-old from Oconomowoc were transported to the hospital with injuries.

The crash is under investigation.

A Chevrolet Malibu was traveling EastBound on Hwy 16 when it left the roadway, crossed through the median into westbound traffic and struck a Dodge Caravan head on.  The Malibu continued into the ditch and came to rest upside down. 

The Caravan came to rest in the westbound lanes of traffic facing eastbound.  A Chevrolet Blazer was traveling westbound on Hwy 16 did not see the Caravan disabled in traffic from the previous accident and struck that vehicle head on.

The operator of the Chevrolet Malibu, Girmscheid, was pronounced dead at the scene.  He was the sole occupant of the vehicle. 

The operator of the Dodge Caravan, a 68 year old male from Watertown, was transported to the hospital for non-life threatening injuries.  His passenger, Elertson was pronounced dead on the scene. 

The operator of the Chevrolet Blazer, a 37 year old female from Oconomowoc, was transported to the hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

This accident remains under investigation by the Waukesha County Sheriff’s Department.
