Racine & Me: Racine Art Museum to host ‘Accidentally Wes Anderson: Adventures in Wisconsin’ exhibition

RACINE, Wis. (CBS 58) — The unmistakable symmetry, bold colors and quirky details associated with filmmaker Wes Anderson are coming to downtown Racine.

The Racine Art Museum is partnering with Accidentally Wes Anderson, a popular digital platform and international community, to bring “Accidentally Wes Anderson: Adventures in Wisconsin” to RAM Downtown from Feb. 24 through June 13, 2027.

The exhibition will mark Accidentally Wes Anderson’s Midwest premiere.

Accidentally Wes Anderson, or AWA, celebrates photographs of real-world places that look as though they could be scenes from a Wes Anderson film. The aesthetic is known for symmetry, striking colors, carefully composed scenes and unexpected details.

What began as a viral social media project has grown into an international community of more than 2 million travelers, photographers, designers, artists and cultural explorers. The project is authorized by Anderson himself.

Wisconsin photographers will also have a chance to become part of the exhibition.

RAM and AWA are launching a public call for submissions beginning Sept. 28. Organizers are looking for photographs from greater Racine, southeast Wisconsin and locations across the state that capture the distinctive Wes Anderson-inspired aesthetic.

Selected photographs could be featured in the Racine exhibition and/or shared with Accidentally Wes Anderson’s social media community.

The call for submissions will remain open through Nov. 15, 2026, on Accidentally Wes Anderson’s website.

When the exhibition opens in February, it will combine AWA photography from around the world with community-submitted images from Racine and across Wisconsin.

The exhibition will also incorporate artwork selected for its unusual and whimsical qualities. Works from RAM’s collection will be displayed alongside loaned pieces, including sculpture, jewelry, works on paper, artistic taxidermy, miniatures and other curiosities.

The pieces will be arranged in cinematic vignettes inspired by the visual language associated with Anderson’s films, creating a journey through destinations both close to home and around the globe.
