They're swinging again under the Holton Street Bridge in Milwaukee

MILWAUKEE-Swings that once fell into such disrepair they had to be removed have now been replaced with even better ones made with recycled materials.

They were officially unveiled Wednesday and hang from the Marsupial Bridge near East Brady and North Water Streets.

The area is an eclectic gathering place and the grassroots group 'beintween\" didn't give up and worked with the city to restore the swings, offering even more people a chance to enjoy this lesser known haven in the city.

\"This could be a longstanding place where different activity, people, class and race could all merge into one space and not be told what to do,\" \"beintween\" member Keith Hayes said at the ribbon cutting for the new swings.

Mayor Tom Barrett, Alderman Nik Kovac, and members of the Brady Street Business Improvement and DPW were also on hand to celebrate.

They were all part of the collaboration to bring the swings back. A total of 11 new swings have been installed, including a set of baby swings and a metal swing that is ADA accessible.

The cushioned ground beneath the swings has also been replaced with shredded rubber tired, and new lighting has been installed for security and safety.
