MOUNT PLEASANT, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Pleasant Prairie police say a 7-year-old boy got a hold of a gun and shot himself in the leg. 

The incident happened Saturday, Sept. 19, around 4 p.m. 

According to police, officers responded to a residence on Green Bay Road, just north of Belvidere Road, and located the injured child. The 7-year-old was taken to a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. 

A 24-year-old man was taken into custody and transported to the Racine County Jail on charges of leaving/storing a loaded firearm within reach of a child. 

An investigation is ongoing.
