RACINE, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Now a first-round draft pick and important piece of the Milwaukee Bucks' roster, 22-year-old MarJon Beauchamp doesn't have to think back too far to a childhood that involved a lot of uncertainty.

"Where I came from, I didn't really have anyone to look up to," Beauchamp explained. "I just told myself, when I do make it, I'm going to keep doing this and keep inspiring the next, because I feel like that's what it's about."

Beauchamp has made it, and Wednesday, he lived up to the promise he made to himself by visiting Roosevelt Elementary School in Racine, signing autographs, taking pictures and handing out art supplies to students.

"The kids are so excited. They've been making pictures, doing artwork all week," said Roosevelt Principal Lori Nasci. "We actually focused more on art supplies; sketch books, crayons and things like that. "Most of our kids love art and a lot of them don't have these supplies at home."

Students at the assembly had the chance to learn about Beauchamp and his success both on and off the court. A priceless memory for many of the kids, and Beauchamp himself.

"It was amazing, just the cheer and the joy when I walked in here," Beauchamp said. "That makes me want to go harder and really like be that role model for them because they are looking and they are watching."

"They're going to remember this forever," added Nasci. "They'll probably keep these pictures forever and the kids that are into basketball will have this as just one of their favorite memories of school."
