MCTS adding service, detours for Brewers World Series championship parade

CBS 58

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) — The Milwaukee County Transit System is adding service on several routes Friday as hundreds of thousands of fans are expected downtown for the Brewers' World Series championship parade.

MCTS is encouraging fans to use public transit because of limited downtown parking and road closures along the parade route.

Additional service will be added on CONNECT 1, the GreenLine and routes 12, 18 and 57. Several other routes will also stop within walking distance of the parade route and Henry Maier Festival Park.

The Parade of Champions begins at 10 a.m. at North Fourth Street and West Wisconsin Avenue before ending at Henry Maier Festival Park. The championship rally and fan festival will run from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

MCTS said road closures will force temporary detours for routes serving downtown and the lakefront. Some detours are expected to begin at 6 a.m. and last until about 1 p.m.

Buses will detour around closures on Wisconsin Avenue between Sixth and Cass streets, as well as between Sixth and Jackson streets. Additional street closures downtown could also cause delays throughout the transit system.

MCTS is advising riders to allow extra travel time and check RideMCTS.com/Alerts or the Umo app for the latest route and detour information.

Regular MCTS and CONNECT 1 fares are $2.75 for riders ages 12 and older.

Riders can pay with a WisGo card, through the Umo app, with cash or by tapping an eligible credit or debit card, smartphone or smartwatch on the fare reader when boarding.

All MCTS buses are accessible for people using mobility devices.

Transit Plus riders can schedule a trip through the Transit Plus Same Day app or by calling 414-946-6318.
