Teenager to be tried as adult in 14 year-old girl's death

The 14 year-old who allegedly shot and killed Vista Jackson in Racine on September 14 was charged as an adult.

Keller McQuay was charged with first degree reckless homicide, possession of a firearm by a felon and possession of short-barreled shotgun or rifle.

According to the complaint, Vista was singing in the living room of her apartment before the shooting happened.  McQuay entered and a witness heard Vista tell him she loved him. Then the witness heard McQuay tell Vista he loved her. The witness then heard Vista yell she loved her. Shortly thereafter, the witness heard a pop.

McQuay came running into the kitchen asking the witness for help.

Another witness said, she saw McQuay leaving the residence after the shooting. He allegedly said “Oh my God, I just shot Vista!”
