MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Tax Day falls on Monday, April 15, and last year nearly 18 million taxpayers submitted their returns during the final week of the filing season. Financial professionals say delaying too long can increase the risk of costly errors.
Local advisor Randy Winkler of Drake & Associates joined us Thursday, April 10 with guidance for last-minute filers.
Winkler recommends filing electronically to reduce math mistakes and speed up refund processing. He also emphasized the importance of checking Social Security numbers, signatures and calculations to avoid IRS delays.
Those unable to file by the deadline must submit an extension form by April 15. Tax owed is still due that day to avoid penalties. More information is available through IRS.gov.
