SWAT Called to Racine County Home

Racine County Sheriff's Office received a 911 call Friday night just after 8 PM from a woman claiming her 51-year-old son was intoxicated and threatening to shoot family members. While deputies were responding, the subject, William Hughes age 51, reportedly locked himself in a barn on the property where he maintains a stash of firearms.

When Racine County Sheriff's deputies arrived the family advised officers Hughes keeps at least five firearms in the barn at all times. It was reported by family members they last saw him enter the barn but never saw him leave. Based on the fact Hughes was reportedly intoxicated, maintains a stash of weapons and made threats to use firearms against family members, the decision was made to have both members of the Crisis Negotiations team and S.W.A.T. respond to the call.

A search of the barn was conducted but the subject was not located inside. Officers did recover multiple firearms.

An extensive search of the area was conducted but the subject was not located.

Investigation into the incident is ongoing and the subject has still not been located.

A bench warrant has been issued for Hughes for previous charges.
