Supporting homeless veterans at the 18th annual 'Coach P's Veterans Donation Reserve Games'

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- At Franklin High School, Thanksgiving means more than just basketball. 

This week marked the 18th annual "Coach P's Veterans Donations Reserve Games." A tradition that started as a simple reserve scrimmage and has grown into a major effort for homeless veterans. 

Each year, Franklin and its opponent, now Greenfield High School, bring winter care packs, cold weather gear and donations. 

over the years, the event has raised more than $50,000 and collected countless items for veterans. 

"I'm a veteran, and I've had friends who are veterans struggle.... position to have an impact," said Head Coach Tyler Podoll.  

At half-time, they presented a check to the Milwaukee Homeless Veterans Initiative and after the game, both teams sit down for a shared team meal.
