State and local leaders respond to Minneapolis shooting involving ICE agent
WISCONSIN (CBS 58) -- Reaction continues to pour in from local leaders in the aftermath of Wednesday's shooting involving an ICE agent in Minneapolis.
Thursday morning, Mayor Cavalier Johnson commented on the presence of ICE in Milwaukee and how the city is preparing for the possibility of increased ICE activity.
"Having conversations with our law enforcement partners across jurisdictions here in Milwaukee, and in Milwaukee County as well, making sure we're prepared for what eventualities may be," Mayor Johnson said. "Also working with our federal partners, too, and seeing if we can get a heads up to see if we can get some insight into what federal action might be here in Milwaukee and in Wisconsin."
Mayor Johnson went on to say there's currently no word from the Trump administration on an increase in ICE activity coming to Milwaukee.
On the other side of the aisle, state Representative Bob Donovan commented on the shooting Thursday afternoon.
Rep. Donovan condemned what he called "continuous attacks" and inflammatory rhetoric against federal law enforcement, saying that it fuels unrest.
He defended federal officers involved in immigration enforcement, saying that enforcing immigration law is the federal government's responsibility.
