Spread of virus affects area meal programs for those in need

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The spread of COVID-19 is affecting local meal programs for needy people in Milwaukee.

"We are going to go to bag lunches only. Normally we had been doing hot lunches," said Chef Al.

Chef Al runs the Open Door Cafe, a free meal program at the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist.

Natalie Shepherd recently featured the cafe on her "Natalie's Everyday Heroes" segment on CBS 58.

Monday, March 23, was the last day for the hot meals. Chef Al said they always need help with food donations.
