Several residents rescued from burning apartment building in Milwaukee

MILWAUKEE, Wis. (CBS 58) -- The Milwaukee Fire Department says a total of six paramedic units transported multiple victims of a Milwaukee apartment fire during the morning hours of Sun. Feb. 1.

Crews responded to the scene near 77th and Green Tree Road and found a working fire in the first-floor common hallway, with occupants hanging out of windows of a 2-story, 8 family dwelling. 

Firefighters made several rescues via ladders from their second story windows. 

The fire was upgraded to a second alarm, bringing in additional units to the scene, including the North Shore and Wauwatosa Fire Departments. 

MFD says a total of six med units were called to the scene to treat and take injured patients to the hospital.

Crews also brought a county bus to the scene to temporarily shelter occupants that were out in the cold.

Officials say there is no known injuries to firefighters at this time.

The building is currently uninhabitable. The MFD Fire Investigation Unit is on scene to determine cause and origin.
