MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) – Dozens of flights were canceled at Mitchell International Airport Thursday morning and many more delayed.

“We’re seeing cancellations here in Milwaukee as well as other airports, Detroit, Minneapolis and others,” Airport marketing and public relations manager Harold Mester said.

Milwaukee resident Drevonn Morris was headed to Miami but the flight was delayed.

“They keep pushing it back,” Morris said. “I just want to get there and have fun and get out of the cold so it’s very frustrating.”

The cold is the cause of the cancellations and delays as airlines try to keep their grounds workers safe in the frigid temperatures.

“Airlines are making those decisions on a case by case basis,” Mester said. “It’s really in the interest of workers safety… keep their employees out of the cold weather as much as they possibly can.

Morris said he understands the concern.

“You don’t want anyone to get sick or frostbite or anything like that so just think about others cause if you were in that predicament you would want the same thing.

Morris’ flight was rescheduled and those with cancelled flights were re-booked. Travelers are urged to contact their airline for updates on flight status.
