KENOSHA COUNTY, Wis. (CBS 58) -- The sentencing hearing for an Illinois man convicted of shooting and wounding a Kenosha County police K-9 was delayed due to alleged mental health issues.
On May 25, Allan Brown refused to leave his Kenosha County jail cell, instead he appeared via Zoom, after his attorney said he was facing mental health problems.
"To me his mental health has severely deteriorated since the last time I spoke with him, I do have concerns he doesn’t quite understand where we are or what we are doing, " said Addison Kuhn, Allan's Attorney.
The Deputies involved in the 2021 shooting were in the courtroom, hoping to make their voice heard at the sentencing.
"I wanted to stand face to face and say what I wanted to say, and I didn’t get the chance do that," said Deputy Terry Tifft with the Kenosha Sheriff's Department.
The judge ordered a full psychological evaluation of Brown before he hands down his sentence.
"We need an examination in custody by a licensed psychiatrist or a licensed psychologist and that report to be provided to the court and the attorney's within 30 days, said Kenosha County Judge Anthony Milisauskas.
The court has set a new sentencing date for July 10.
