MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A school safety officer at a Milwaukee school will be able to avoid jail time for allegedly slamming an 11-year-old to the ground.
Charles Smith, 60, was in court Thursday for sentencing. The judge imposed a nine-month jail term but Smith will only have to serve if he gets into trouble over the next year. Milwaukee Police say surveillance video from Lloyd Barbee Montessori School shows Smith pushing the student then picking him up by the torso and slamming him onto the concrete floor.
The young boy suffered bruising and swelling.
