Salvation Army offering activities for kids on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The Salvation Army of Milwaukee County will be celebrating Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. at four of its locations on Monday, January 21.

In addition to providing a safe space for children on a day off from school, Salvation Army leaders will lead craft activities centered around Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., provide movies for children to watch about Martin Luther King, Jr., lead an "I am the Dream" essay contest and oversee a basketball tournament. Two locations are free and open to the public.

Activities will take place at the following locations:

  • Citadel Corps Worship and Community Center, 4129 West Villard Ave. Milwaukee, WI 53209: Noon to 5 p.m.
  • Emergency Lodge (Not open to public), 1730 North 7th Street Milwaukee, WI 53212: 10 a.m. to noon (The Emergency Lodge provides emergency shelter to homeless individuals and families with children).
  • Maskani Place (Not open to public), 320 E Center St, Milwaukee, WI 53212: 1-3 p.m. (Maskani Place offers affordable housing for low-income families who were homeless or at risk of homelessness).
  • Oak Creek Centennial Church and Community Center, 8853 South Howell Ave. Oak Creek, WI 53154: 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
