MILWAUKEE COUNTY (CBS 58) -- AAA expects more than 54 million Americans will travel this Thanksgiving, making it the busiest for holiday travel in the last 12 years.
More than 48 million people will travel by car. Here in Milwaukee, some good news for drivers. Highway 100 south of I-94 reopened on Wednesday. It's been closed for weeks.
But keep in mind, there are still other ongoing construction projects.
"It is a key element. When you're preparing for winter driving or holiday driving patience should be one of the first things you do certainly make sure your car is in good working order. Make sure your windshield wipers are in good shape. Make sure your defroster is working. You know that snow brush that's sitting in the garage somewhere, get it in the car just in case. We don't want to see any mobile igloos traveling down the roadway," said Michael Pyritz, Regional Communications manager for WisDOT Southeast Region.
Experts say Sunday will be the busiest.
