MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- As the 2024 Republican National Convention (RNC) draws closer, its host committee said they are on track in fundraising.

MKE 2024 Host Committee is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization created to work with the City of Milwaukee in preparing for the RNC. This Thursday, the media will see the preliminary perimeter for the RNC for the first time during their fall media walkthrough. On Tuesday, Nov. 28, during an event, committee members answered media questions about the convention.

"It's a big week. I think every week is a big week when you only have seven months until the convention next summer," MKE 2024 Host Committee COO Alison Prange said.

Prange tells CBS 58 they are making the most out of this opportunity to make a lasting impact on Milwaukee.

"We lost out in 2020 by not getting to host the DNC, so this is another kick of the can, and it's unusual to get that," she said. "We are here working on behalf of the city. This is not political for the host committee. It's about Milwaukee, and it's about setting up the city for great impact beyond this for years."

MKE 2024 Host Committee CEO Ted Kellner stressed their job is nonpartisan.

"This is apolitical, this is not republican, democrat. It is green," he said. "This is about Milwaukee and making this city basically the shining light in July of 24 for 50,000 people and a $200 million impact."

They were vague about where they are in the planning process but said they are in good shape when it comes to their $68 million fundraising goal, despite not sharing how much they have raised to date.

"Raising money is never easy. Things are going great. We're lucky that we have a great city to sell and get behind us in terms of individuals and the business community across Wisconsin, so it's a lot of work, but things are going great," Prange said.

They also said they have seen aid from both sides of the aisle.

"We've got a lot of major companies that are on board as well as major supporters. They are also supporting this effort and supporting what we're going to bring to Milwaukee next summer," Prange explained. "The reaction has been very favorable because people want to help Milwaukee, and that's what this is about."
