MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A man was taken to the hospital after an apartment fire near Holton and Lloyd in Milwaukee on Sunday, Oct. 5.

The Milwaukee Fire Department responded to the blaze around 3:20 p.m. Battalion Chief Brian Moore said a nearby firehouse allowed for a fast response.

"A 911 call came from the man trapped on the third floor of the apartment," Moore said.

"We laid a line to the third floor, extinguished the fire, a company followed that company up right behind them were able to find the occupant of the building in his kitchen unconscious. They were able to grab him, pull him out of the building. By the time we were putting him on the cot to take him to the hospital he had regained consciousness, he was talking, still slightly confused or disoriented, but he was put in the ambulance and taken to St. Mary’s Hospital at that time."

Moore said the man, believed to be about 50 years old and disabled, suffered smoke inhalation but had no burns.

Fire investigators are still looking into the cause of the fire.
