MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The historic Patrick Cudahy building in Milwaukee's Walker's Point neighborhood is being renovated in an effort to strengthen the community.
Mayor Barrett and other city and community leaders celebrated the construction kick-off for the future Arts @ Large Community Center.
The center on South 5th Street near Walker will feature an art gallery and studio. A training center office space for non-profits, and public spaces for events like weddings and birthday parties.
"We got this iconic building and we've got this incredible organization that is coming together in a way that all of us are going to benefit from," said Mayor Barrett. "It's going to really, I think, enhance the quality of life for all the kids in the community."
Construction is expected to be finished by the end of the year, with a grand opening set for next summer.
