MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Like many of us nowadays, Moniese Reese normally uses social media to keep in touch with her friends and other loved ones.

So, when she woke up Sunday morning, she didn't expect it would also be how she found out a nightmare had come true.

"I was just like, wait, no, there's something wrong. Like this can't be real," Reese told CBS 58's Ellie Nakamoto-White.

A friend had messaged Reese that Tynesha, her best friend of more than a decade, had been shot and killed around 2 a.m. on Nov. 19.

"It's really devastating," Reese said. "Tynesha was a woman of God and a mother. You know, she put her kids first in everything she did in life. She was a beautiful person and would give the shirt off her back."

Although Milwaukee police haven't named the victim themselves, they believe a 30-year-old had died during an argument with the suspect who is now considered "armed and dangerous."

It's one of the latest instances of domestic violence in Milwaukee, a disturbing trend that the president and CEO of the Sojourner Family Peace Center (SFPC) said has only gone up since the fall of 2019.

“One life is just way too many," said Carmen Pitre with the SFPC. “This is a lifetime of loss, it’s not just a person is murdered and then they’re gone, it’s forever. Every birthday, every anniversary, every holiday moving forward is painful for every person who loved the life of the person who’s lost.”

Another friend sent CBS 58 a message saying she's known Tynesha since middle school, describing her as a "cool, down-to-earth person" who had just celebrated her 30th birthday in October.

"She was always there for people when they needed her, and she always made sure her kids were good," the message said. "To lose her this quickly was nothing we were planning on having come our way."

Now those close to the victim are asking the community for prayers and support for her loved ones.

"It's gonna take a lot you know, it's gonna take a lot of strength from God to get through this," Reese said.

Police are still searching for the suspect. If you have any information, you're asked to contact them immediately.
